Let’s face it, there are probably a million questions running through your mind in the weeks leading up to your big day, and specific questions for your photographer are probably the last thing on your mind. It’s easy for couples to go through their mental checklist and think, “Well, as long as we at least have a wedding photographer, we’re in the clear!” Right?

Wrong. Just as art styles vary among painters, photography is an art and the style will vary among photographers. Every professional has their own niche, which is great – but will there niche live up to what you’ve been gushing over on your favorite Pinterest boards and Instagram accounts? Here’s how to find out.

10 Questions You Have to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

1. What Makes You Different?

Right off the bat, start by asking the photographer what sets them apart from their competitors. This will give you a chance to get to know them, their flow, style, and give you an idea of how much experience they have under their belt.

At Wanderlight Weddings, we connect you with our highly experienced photographers at a price that’ll leave you and your fiance happy. Plus, our full online booking makes it a breeze to schedule the photographer.

Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to form a relationship with the photographer. We want you to know who’s photographing your wedding and trust the job is in the right hands. That’s why our photographers schedule in-person meetings to plan out the timeline for the wedding and hear what type of photography they would like (for example, more candid shots or group photos, if there are specific friends and family you and your someone special would like to be photographed with, etc…).

Doing an engagement shoot with your photographer is another great way to get to know them and see their talent in action.

2. What Do Your Packages Look Like?

Professional wedding photographers will often not share their pricing up front.  We want to be fully transparent, so our pricing is on our website allowing you to decide what is best to capture the wedding of your dreams.

Our packages are based on how many hours the photographer will be at your wedding, starting at $999 for two hours of coverage and going up to $2,699 for 10 hours. Each package includes one photographer, professional editing, digital downloads, a web gallery, and a planning meeting. You can also opt for add-ons, like engagement photos, additional time, or a second photographer.

Still looking for something a bit more custom? We’re all ears! You can contact us directly through our website or call so we can plan the perfect package for you.

3. Can You Show Me a Full Wedding?

Your photographer could give you an entire song and dance about their work, their style, and their experience, but seeing their work will allow you to visualize how your wedding will look through their lens.

All of our photographers have links to a full wedding on their portfolio page, which we highly encourage you to view!  Click here if you want to see what a full wedding looks like.

4. What’s Your Back up Plan If There’s an Emergency?

Life happens, we get it. However, the wedding must go on. If your photographer has a personal emergency on the morning of the wedding, this can cause a lot of last-minute stress that could’ve been avoided by working with a team of photographers, as opposed to hiring a freelance wedding photographer.

We fully realize that strength is in numbers. That’s why we have an entire team of meticulous, caring photographers who are here for you no matter what. If something comes up, we’ve all got your back.

5. How Do You Like to Schedule a Wedding Day?

Scheduling is everything. When you’re running around looking for your veil or tie, you don’t have time to worry about when, where, and how the photographer will be arriving at the ceremony.

Our photographers want to fit into your schedule as fluidly as possible. They will meet with you a month in advance so the scheduling and other details are already taken care of.

6. How Do I Book You as a Wedding Photographer?

With Wanderlight Weddings, booking is easy and entirely online. You simply enter your wedding date, choose one of our available photographers, select your wedding package, and provide your contact information along with details of your wedding day. You will also sign a contract with and pay a $500 deposit.

7. When and How Will I Get My Wedding Photos?

Google Drive? Dropbox? Flash Drive? The double-edged sword of the digital age: there are entirely too many ways to pass files around from one another, which can cause a lot of confusion. It’s also important to know when you’ll be receiving your photos and how to purchase physical copies.

Our photographers provide a link to hi-resolution photos from the wedding one month after the date. The link will lead to a user-friendly online gallery that you can browse just like this one or you can download the photos from the link and distribute them however you please. We also give you the option to purchase print copies of the photos and a physical album from the gallery.

8. How Long Have You Been in Business?

Experience goes hand in hand with quality and reputability. You should know whether the photographer your working with is seasoned in their practice or if this is their very first wedding.

We started Elevate Photography in 2001 and have been leading the way in photographing weddings throughout Denver and the rest of Colorado.  We have photographed over 1,000 weddings with Elevate Photography!   Wanderlight Wedding Photography was started as a sister company to Elevate and we bring all of that experience with us.

9. Do You Carry Backup Equipment?

Having backup equipment is just as vital as having a backup plan in the event of a personal emergency. What if the camera batteries die or the lens starts acting up?

Rest assured, all of our photographers are required to bring backup cameras, lenses, and lighting.

10. Why Do You Love Being a Wedding Photographer?

Passion leads to perfection. You should know why your photographer is in the wedding business: is it for the beauty of the ceremony, or are they just looking for a paycheck?

All of our photographers are head over heels for their craft. You can learn more about why our photographers love their jobs by watching the video on their portfolio page!
